The Start Of It All

Hi I'm Dave-better known to many as dsh46, a rather pedestrian handle I am shelving for this project. For the better part of thirty years I have been reading about, researching and collecting oddball Topps cards from 1949 through 1980 or so. My primary interest is baseball but I find the whole history of the company fascinating. After posting what are essentially blogs on the Net54 Postwar Baseball Card Board over the past year (which I will continue to do) I am going to tighten, update and transfer some of those posts here on a sporadic basis. I'll create new content here as well when time permits. I do have other interests in the collecting world, such as T206 cards and old Brooklyn Dodger memorabilia and might occasionally visit those topics here, but prodigious output of Topps throughout the years will be the main focus.

Over the last three decades I have accumulated a vast archive of scans from untold sources and will be using many of them here. While some of these represent items I own (or used to), most do not. While this is a non-profit endeavor, if you find an image here that belongs to you and want it taken down or credit given, please contact me. I am more than happy to give proper credit to original sources or providers of information. My intent is not to infringe on anyone's copyright or trademark but some of these items are so scarce, images of them have never been seen by most collectors and I feel it is instructive to post them. My only goal is to share and exchange knowledge. If you have something of interest, by all means send me a scan or a file.

I'll give a shout out here to Fleerfan's Fleer Sticker Project Blog, which got me thinking how cool this could actually be.

Personally, I collect sets of the easier insert, limited and test cards/stamps/stickers/etc. issued by Topps and go after type examples of the rarer and more expensive items. Some I will never own, that's just the way it goes but I can certainly enjoy them in virtual form. And so can you. So here we go.....

Oh yeah! Above all else, remember- it's a hobby and it's supposed to be fun!

Dave,
I only always enjoy your threads on N54 and look forward to reading your Blog and learning from it. We have a great hobby, and things like this are arguably just as fun as owning our "cardboard gems."
Have fun-
George
